Vocabulary
Learning new vocabulary has tremendous benefits. Growing your vocabulary stores can help you improve your writing, speaking, and comprehension. We will be learning new vocabulary from all subject areas. More specifically, we will be using the Sadlier-Oxford vocabulary program. Each unit will typically take two weeks to complete.
Vocabulary Cycle-
Day 1 Class (introduce words 1-5) Homework (color-code parts of speech and draw visual on flashcards and study)
Day 2 Class (check homework and review 1-5 words) Homework (study)
Day 3 Class (introduce words 6-10) Homework (color-code parts of speech and draw visual on flashcards)
Day 4 Class (check homework and review 6-10 words) Homework (study)
Day 5 Homework (choosing the right word)
Day 6 Class (check homework and review) Homework (synonyms and antonyms and study)
Day 7 Class (check homework and review) Homework (study)
Day 8 Class (completing the sentence using context clues) Homework (study)
Day 9 Homework (be sure to study and review all words)
Day 10 Unit Test
Note- Vocabulary projects may be assigned as well. All information will be provided (directions and due dates) by the teacher. Please see the vocabulary files that are uploaded to assist you with classroom vocabulary.
Color-Coding Parts of Speech-
Nouns (blue)
Verbs (green)
Adjectives (pink)
Adverbs (yellow)
If you do not have highlighters, you may use colored pencils or crayons.
